Extras, also known as background talent, are people that are used in the background of movies, commercials, company videos, and music videos. They are used to create a more realistic environment in a non-speaking capacity. These are the people that you normally see walking down a busy city street, eating at a restaurant, or crowds at a football game.
2). I don't have any acting experience. Can I still be an Extra?
Yes. Being an Extra requires no acting experience. It only requires you to be dependable, patient, and on-time.
3). Do I need to have a professional headshot or a resume before signing up to be an Extra?
No. You do not need professional headshots, but we do require a photo of you. This can be any photo with only you in it, clearly showing your face. You do not need a resume. Sign-up for our free website membership and click on View/Edit Profile. Complete the form, upload your photo, and click SAVE. This information is what we will use when casting for a project so please provide good contact information and please be truthful.
4). Is there a fee to Register with Alabama Casting?
NO! It is absolutely FREE to register at alabamacasting.com.
5). Can you guarantee me a lot of work?
NO! We can not guarantee you work. Extras are cast depending on client criteria. If you do not fit that criteria, then you will not be selected for that particular project. An example would be a film about a football team looking to cast 200+ pound men only. If you are a 120 pound female, then you will not be cast as an Extra for this project. If they are also looking to cast stadium fans, then there is a good possibility that you would be selected. This also would depend on your current reputation with Alabama Casting Services, LLC. If you prove to be reliable and punctual, then you stand a much better chance of getting cast again.
6). If I'm cast as an Extra, do I need to bring my own clothes?
Most times you will need to bring your own wardrobe but there are times when wardrobe will be provided. Whichever the case, this will be communicated to you beforehand.
7). If I'm cast as an Extra on a film, will I get a chance to talk to the actors and take pictures?
It is very important that you remember that you are hired to do a job and remain professional. Please do not bring cameras, or camera phones on set. Also, please respect the actors and do not ask for pictures and autographs. If not on set, then please bring a book, crossword puzzle, or something to keep you busy. It is also important that you refrain from talking on set.
8). If I'm cast as an Extra, can I bring my ipod or laptop to keep me busy while not on set?
It is not recommended that you bring any type of electronic devices or valuable items on the days that you are shooting as you will not be able to bring these items on set with you, unless directed to do so. Alabama Casting will not be responsible for your personal items, so please leave them at home.
9). How will I know what to do on a movie set?
You will be given clear directions on what to do on set by the Director. You will be told where to stand, sit, walk, or run during each scene. You should be very calm and normal and NEVER look directly into the camera. NEVER talk out loud, you should "mime" your words. Never laugh or smile during a dramatic scene and always pay attention to what's being said.
